About Me

Hi, I’m Sophie, the voice and creator behind The Able Diary — a space where honesty, humor, and healing all have a seat at the same table.

I’m a paraplegic advocate, writer, and full-time student studying Social & Human Services at Wake Tech. I’m passionate about accessibility, inclusion, and changing the way the world views disability — not as something tragic, but as a powerful part of the human experience.

Life didn’t exactly go according to plan. I became paralyzed from the belly button down after being shot in 2022, and what followed was years of pain, rebuilding, and self-discovery. But instead of letting it define me, I decided to redefine what strength and independence look like on my own terms.

My days now are a mix of advocacy work, creativity, community-building, and continuing to learn how to live fully — spastic muscles, wheelchairs, laughter, and all. I’m passionate about showing that disabled and thriving belong in the same sentence.

Through The Able Diary, I share stories, reflections, and real-life moments that prove accessibility can be beautiful, humor belongs in healing, and confidence has no conditions.

If you take one thing from my journey, let it be this: life doesn’t have to look “normal” to be extraordinary.

Welcome to my corner of the internet — where resilience is real, honesty is sacred, and community is everything.
